Rockin’ if like Alton Brown?

HE IS DEAD CLEVER

At the risk of sounding like I have a star crush (errrmmm…ok maybe I do just a little) has anybody else noticed just how dead clever Alton Brown is?

I mean we see him on a lot of different shows for Food Network; that in itself is not an easy thing to do especially when you like to be involved in as much of the show as Alton does.

If you follow him on the various different social media platforms then you know what I mean. From funny as hell shots of camera’s on top of his head to get just the right photo INSIDE the oven, to drawings of the latest set design and on to falling asleep over his laptop while writing scripts; the man has got a hand in more than a few details.

Everything he does is funny, on point and clever but in an every man kind of way. Hand written post it notes stuck on everything imaginable letting us in on little nuggets of common sense such as eating whatever the hell you want from now on are a standard.

The latest edition to his quirkiness includes his wife for episodes of Quarantine Quitchen which involves a lot of making and drinking cocktails while trying to cook…often times leading to unexpected uh-ohs but always live and very funny on Instagram. Given all this, Alton is pretty much what I want to be when I grow up so I worked up a list of things we have in common! 🤣🙌😉

Well that is the big city we lay claim to even if we both live in the suburbs…

GEORGIA PEACHES OF A KIND

We both lay claim to the big city of Atlanta even though we both live in the suburbs. I am not entirely sure why he chooses to live further out but I suspect it might be to have more space and a bigger compound from which to create his various shows and projects.

ME TOO! I live even further out because I like the mountains and prefer the less expensive cost of living for my various creative pursuits (yes….I do have a few). Everyone knows how expensive it can get to work from home on a blog, do social media and work on recipes and freebies for your readers! 😆

BITTER LIKE ME

We both got that music thing going on. I mean he plays the guitar and the saxophone and has his own CD out with the very clever title, Bitter Like Me, and it is seriously good.

ME TOO! I play the guitar and the piano. I have a tendency towards jazzy stuff and like to think I sound a little like Diana Krall (I sing all my songs in the key of low). While I don’t have a CD, I am playing with the idea of a hippie chick garage band and I have been told I can be bitter sometimes…does that count?

A LITTLE ADDICTED

To coffee of course! Alton spends a lot of time talking about coffee and the places he likes to go. He has a board on Pinterest with funny photos of his favorite hang outs.

I hear he is planning to open a shop in his own neighborhood in the burbs; that he might even sell doughnuts cause he loves those too!

ME TOO! I am totally hooked on my Nespresso machine and I visit every one of their showrooms when traveling to take artsy fartsy pics of my latest cuppa.

I spent hours perfecting the recipe of a friend to make the Czech doughnuts of my dreams from my days in Prague (pssstttt….they have to have rose petal sugar in the center as the secret ingredient).

AND YOUR LITTLE DOG TOO!

So Alton never thought he would have a little dog and then Scabigail came along as a rescue whose name tells you all about her skin issues when he got her! Now she is in a LOT of his pictures and you can tell he is in serious LOVE. This dog has her own Instagram account OK?

ME TOO! I am on my fifth little dog and the last two have both been rescues instead of pure breeds. They have been my best travel companions, go everywhere with me and are in a good portion of my photos. I too fell in love with my little guys! (Sadly, my little Tiny has gone over the bridge now!)

GOT BOOKS?

Alton lists books as one of the things he can’t live without. He says he has over 2,000 cookbooks alone. That’s a serious thing for books my friends!

ME TOO SORTA! I mean I seriously can’t live without books either but when I downsized and moved to the mountains I gave away more books than I care to think about and I still have four huge bookcases left. Cookbooks I do adore and gave away plenty of those too with just a few measly favorites left (maybe 30 or so?).

A small portion of Alton Brown’s book collection…could just as easily be a shot of mine too…

A LITTLE FUNNY, MYSTERIOUS & QUIRKY

We all know how funny Alton can be since the earliest days of Good Eats; a look at food from a more quirky scientific way which was very different from other food show formulas at the time.

Along comes Cut Throat Kitchen which has him finding all manner of weird ways to make people cook for the money and the American version of the camp Japanese show Iron Chef.

I laughed out loud when watching Alton’s video on Facebook with his daughter after a drum lesson on a recent trip to Japan; quirky, endearing and seriously good at the same time! Again, who knew?

Check out the quirky Quarantine live videos with his funny wife where cooking and drinking come together with laugh out loud consequences!

ME? Well I like to think I am at least funny on the fly; I’m told I am. Mysterious for sure because I really hate selfies unlike Alton ( I’d really rather take a pic of my feet than my face…is that weird?).

Quirky in the way I look at things; I have an opinion and voice it out loud a lot without thought as to who might be listening. I was pretty damn sure when I was deciding not to use my real name on my projects and just go with Artsy Chow Roamer that at the very least Alton would have probably picked Arty Grub Quests instead….amma right?

Yep….probably…totally

AND THEN THERE’S FOOD

I know! He is a two time James Beard Foundation Award winner, a TV personality and presenter, a chef, and an author. There is nothing he hasn’t tried to do around food at this writing except maybe open a restaurant (maybe he has done that in his sleep and I just don’t know about it yet).

ME? I eat, drink, blog and travel a lot. I am a pretty gosh darn good amateur chef, a serious foodie, a mad canner, a bread and pasta maker and a binge watching food show addict (especially Food Network). I know it isn’t in the same category at all but I do think this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Hey Alton-call me! 🙌💯

CONCLUSION

So rockin’ it like Alton Brown? Not quite but maybe one day soon! I’m just gonna fake it ‘til I make it. It would help if Alton would just give me a follow, a shout out, a thumbs up….. just sayin’…😂😘
